David A. Maass was born in Rochester, Minnesota and was a self-taught wildlife artist known for his detailed paintings of waterfowl and upland birds. After working in a jewelry company’s art department and serving in the Marines, he pursued painting full time.

Maass twice won the Federal Duck Stamp Contest and was named “Artist of the Year” by Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. His long partnership with Wild Wings, Inc. produced many limited-edition prints. He is recognized for his accurate, naturalistic depictions of birds and their habitats.
