Tom Suomalainen is a figural artist from Walnut Cove, North Carolina. He is known for his imaginative ceramic sculptures that draw upon his childhood experiences in rural Minnesota and family trips to Canada. His work has exhibited regionally and is included in many private collections. In 2016, he was invited as a guest lecturer at The North Carolina Pottery Center in Seagrove, NC during an exhibition "Penland Clay: Shaping North Carolina Ceramics.” Suomalainen's work is influenced by his heightened sense of observation from his adventures and serenity of portage trips.
