Escouen, July 18, 1567, a one page transcription in French:
Were it not that time is pressing for the departure of the Catholic King, who can scarcely delay any longer, there would be no great need to dispatch this courier to you; but in order that you might be helped with these one thousand escudos which the king, my son, is giving to you in order to help with the expenses of your voyage, and to keep you informed as to his intentions, which you will learn from the note that has been entrusted to him (the courier), and which he will elaborate orally. I shall now close and request that you let me have some news from you as often as possible, and especially news of the Queen, my daughter. I pray God watch over you, Monsieur de Fourquevaulx. Signed Catherine and, below, by her talented lady-in-waiting Madeleine de L'Aubépine. A 19th-century engraving of Catherine is included.
