Late 19th century, architectural form case with hand-painted and gilt porcelain mounted in gilt spelter, case posterior stamped indistinctly to the verso and numbered "7 / 72 / 6822," the clock dial with Roman chapters signed "J. E. Caldwell / Philadelphia," above a reclined figure of Cupid, flanked by two caryatid columns supporting scepters and spread-winged bird, with floral swag and laurel borders, together with conforming mantel urns having ornate lion mask handles. All pieces with conforming original upholstered giltwood stands.
Period French Japy Freres Movement is present, but has been detached and replaced with a battery operated movement.
Clock 15 1/2 x 10 1/4 x 5 in.; garnitures 11 in.
From the Collection of Madeleine Katavolos, Pinehurst, North Carolina A few small cracks and denting to metal case elements; hairline to dial; scattered rubbing to gilt and some surface marks; original movement replaced with battery operated movement; original movement is present, when moving hands and winding the movement runs and chimes.
