Mid-19th century, both without hallmarks to the silver, the larger featuring a hinged lid with rectangular agate mount with silver trim, silver shield escutcheon period script monogram and dated 1848; the second featuring an ornate silver relief of a floral cutting to the hinged lid, and silver escutcheon with dedicated engraving "A / NEW YEARS / GIFT / FOR / 1839" beneath a silver band additionally engraved "E. M. to William Marchbank.Edin."

Larger is 3 x 3 x 1 1/2 in.
