Late 19th century, the lapdesk with rosewood veneers and mahogany secondary, unmarked, inlaid brass strap mounts and escutcheon, opening to an aubergine velvet writing service with further letter storage beneath, and five pen and ink compartments, including two brass capped inkwells (6 1/4 x 18 x 10 in.); the traveling set of brass weights likely for apothecary or jewelry merchant trade, includes (8) graduated weights measured in grams, fitted within a burl case with brass mounts.

Case with scratches, a few cracks, and small losses to veneers; writing service and letter storage bands with some tears and losses; one interior panel loose with loss to one brass stay clip; ink bottles are period with some staining. Weight case missing several weights and scale accoutrements.
