Patrick Hennessy was an Irish painter known for his refined realist style, meticulous technique, and distinctive blend of still life, portraiture, and symbolic subject matter. Born in Cork, he spent part of his childhood in Arbroath, Scotland, before receiving formal training at the Dundee College of Art from 1933 to 1938, where he won several scholarships and early recognition for his disciplined approach to drawing and painting. Hennessy returned to Ireland in the early 1940s and quickly established himself in Dublin art circles, exhibiting at the Royal Hibernian Academy.
Throughout his career Hennessy remained committed to a form of modern realism that existed outside prevailing trends, producing still lifes, landscapes, and psychologically charged figurative works that often incorporate subtle personal or symbolic references. Hennessy divided his later years between Ireland, London, and Tangier, maintaining an active exhibition record until his death in 1980.
