Florence, Italy, second half 19th century, terracotta, signed with artist's signature to posterior, depicting a sculpted bust of Michelangelo Buonarroti (Italian, 1475-1564) after the one made by his follower Daniele da Volterra (Italian, 1509-1566) that rests in the Accademia Gallery in Florence, ink inscribed with provenance label to the underside.
6 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 2 1/8 in.
Provenance label from the period affixed to the underside reads:
"Bust of / Michael Angelo / brought from Italy / by -.J. Atkins and / given to A.M. Atkins / 1880 / 1880"
Areas of light surface marks; fleabite to left ear; fritting to base.
