Anton Einsle was an Austrian painter known for his portraits of aristocratic and imperial sitters in mid-19th-century Vienna. Born in Vienna, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and later became one of the favored portraitists of the Austrian imperial family, painting members of the House of Habsburg as well as leading figures of political, military, and cultural life. His style is marked by its clarity, careful rendering of facial features, and subtle psychological presence. In this portrait, Einsle depicts the Ida Meyreder, the mother of a professional violinist, with subtle details that convey her social status and persona.
