Jack London. THE PEOPLE OF THE ABYSS. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1904. First edition; third printing. Inscribed and signed on the first free endpaper: "My dear Miss Stevens / - With hearty comrade / greetings - / Jack London" and dated at the bottom of the page "Oakland, Calif., / November 12, 1904." In original slate blue cloth-covered boards, lettered in gilt on the spine and in black on the front cover. 8vo; xiii, [1], 319, [1]pp. followed by three pages of publisher's ads. With illustrations from photographs throughout, including both in-text and full-page plates.

7 3/4 x 5 3/8 in.

Boards with wear to extremities, and a few small stains to the front board; spine darkened, slightly cocked, and rubbed; interior with toning, occasional wear to gutters, a few plates slightly loose, a couple of pages with offsetting from a newspaper clipping laid in loose, general light handling wear including one leaf with a small tear at the lower margin, and scattered foxing, staining, and grime (concentrated at the beginning of the volume). A good to very good copy.
