Circa 1916, patinated bronze, signed "LOUISE ALLEN" to the round terrace, with foundry mark of "IDEAL CASTING CO. PROV. R.I." to the terrace profile.

11 3/4 x 6 1/2 x 3 3/4 in.

A similar work by the artist in a slightly different pose, titled Pippa Passes, is in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art, accession number 1917.105.

A sculptor of portraits, garden and idealistic pieces, Louise was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. She has lived in Boston most of the year and spent her summers in Gloucester.

She was a member of numerous prestigious societies including the Copley Society of Boston and the National Sculpture Society. She completed a World War Memorial in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and a memorial tablet for Bancroft Hall in Annapolis, Maryland.

Good estate condition; some light attractive greening to the patina.
