Stretcher size 30 1/2 x 41 1/2 in.; Frame dimensions 38 1/4 x 49 1/4 in.

Although primarily trained as an engraver, Antonio Morghen produced a number of paintings featuring narrative representation grounded in academic tradition. A member of the well-known Florentine Morghen family of engravers, which included his father Giovanni Elia Morghen and his uncle, the influential Raffaello Sanzio Morghen, Morghen was trained in his family's workshop.

His works are characterized by a legible presentation of subject matter, whether religious, architectural, or historical. This work conveys both his background in engraving, where narrative legibility is essential, and romanticism of the landscape rooted in his classical academic training.

Scattered retouch visible under UV light; stable allover craquelure.
