Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Oil on canvas (lined), unsigned, presented in a period giltwood frame, retaining written history from the family.

Stretcher size 30 x 25 in.; Frame dimensions 39 x 33 in.

Descended through the family to Estelle’s eldest daughter, Meta Taylor, who later passed it to her niece, Ada Va. Pollock Fenton.

Estelle and Catherine "Kate" Lewis were the daughters of Fielding Lewis (1808–1878) and Catherine Daingerfield Lewis (1820–1849) of King George County, Virginia. Estelle Lewis (1848–1919) married Captain John Gray Pollock, a Confederate officer, and they had three children: Margaret “Meta” Aitcheson Pollock Taylor, Catherine Lewis Pollock Knox-Gore, and John Gray Pollock Jr. Kate Lewis married Matthew Bailey Pollock in 1870, further linking the Lewis and Pollock families.

The painting has been lined, with age cracking, and professional restoration completed in 1997, a summary of restoration available with the lot.
