Signed New York 1829 Paint Decorated Box

Of rectangular form, featuring hand-painted riverscapes with castle and fishing scenes framed within meandering floral borders, the posterior monogrammed and signed "SEW / Hampstead Octr. 1829. WSP ptr." within a foliate plumes, the upper panel mounted in velvet with hand-painted floral basket decoration, upholstered interior retaining a New York newspaper dated August 1829, raised on paw and block feet.

Some scattered molding loss to upper panel; areas of chipping to edges; some paint losses and age toning, some area with old but later paint; staining and tears to upholstered surfaces, top upholstery 19th century, unknown if original to the box.
