Cornelis van Poelenburch was a Dutch Golden Age painter from Utrecht whose refined Italianate landscapes were admired in his time. Trained by Abraham Bloemaert and later influenced by his years in Rome, he became known for small, luminous scenes featuring classical ruins with mythological or biblical figures. His polished technique and idyllic compositions attracted elite patrons including the court of Charles I in England. After returning to the Netherlands he helped shape the Italianate landscape tradition that influenced younger painters.
