Netherlands, circa third quarter 18th century, arched brass face with painted maritime automaton depicting two large ships with cannons before a Dutch port, ink inscribed to the reverse, above a silvered chapter ring engraved "A & TH Haakma Leeuwaerden", with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, silvered Rococo spandrels centering a figural relief medallion, painted and gilt moon phase lunette, operated by a dual train weight driven eight day movement striking on two apical bells; the hood with intricate scrolled fretwork panels, surmounted by a carved Atlas flanked by carved trumpeting angels, hinged glazed tombstone door with turned columns and ormolu capitals, fretwork panel side apertures, the case with a shaped hinged waist door with applied molded edge, conforming linear inlays, ormolu mounted pendulum lenticle featuring a strumming putto on dolphin, scrolled base with repeating inlays, raised on turned feet. Includes four weights and case key.

Some veneer losses to case and hood, some areas with veneer cracks and repair; areas of old insect damage; upper right side missing cove molding and adjacent hood molding; some wood losses to lower feet; rubbing to ormolu surfaces; cracks and some losses to fret carved scrollwork to hood; hood door detached but present; one rear brass column base mount missing to hood; Atlas' plinth needs remounting; case back panel with cracks. Without pendulum.
