Theresa Gloster is a self-taught folk artist from Caldwell County, North Carolina. Born in a West Virginia mining camp and raised in a large African American family, she creates vivid, story-rich paintings inspired by her childhood, community, and faith. Using paint and found materials, Gloster documents everyday life, resilience, and memory. Her home itself serves as a living artwork, covered in murals and installations. She has exhibited widely and received honors such as the South Arts Folk & Traditional Arts Master Artist Fellowship.
