John Thomson (1777-circa 1840) was a Scottish cartographer and publisher from Edinburgh. His two major publications during his lifetime, including the popular A New General Atlas, feature important and detailed maps.

Being sold as a collection of maps (binding extremely worn with boards detached but present, and endpapers, several leaves including title, and some maps detached); lacking two maps ("Germany, north of the Mayne" and "The Kingdom of Poland, as divided"); ownership information in pencil on free endpaper; with various signs and degrees of wear throughout such as offsetting, foxing, toning, damp staining, chips and tears, separation at centerfold, soiling, trimming, and a few repairs; most maps numbered (with printed number, small pasted label, or hand-numbering).
