Carved from a single piece of wood, signed to the lower edge, depicting a standing Hopi native, with bowl form vessel above carved with geometric symbols centering an auspicious turtle with whirlwind, signifying prayer for longevity, water, harvest and fertility.

Hopi artist, Pete Sumatzkuku, is largely self taught and works in variety of media. Pete has works included in several important collections, including the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.
A few small cracks to wood and a few scattered surface marks; some small areas of possible old insect damage to bowl at top.
