Jean-Pierre Dolla, born in Flayosc in the Var region of France, to a family of winegrowers, developed an early passion for painting. He was awarded the Prix de la Critique in 1971, becoming the youngest painter to receive the honor after Bernard Buffet. He trained at the Arts Décoratifs in Grenoble and the Beaux-Arts in Paris, following a classical path in art education. Dolla’s work evolved from a figurative style rooted in 19th-century masters and their precise compositions to a dynamic abstract approach influenced by mid-20th-century artists such as Nicolas de Staël and Jackson Pollock. His mature paintings combine expressive action painting with vibrant figuration, spanning landscapes and female nudes.
Some minor paint chipping to edges; soft buckling to canvas at lower right corner.
