Born in Connecticut, Judith Azur was educated at the University of Hartford Art School and the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, where she earned a master's degree in fine arts.

In 1970, she moved to San Francisco after studying in Europe. She became associate director of the Vorpal Gallery and taught at the Western Design Institute. Her paintings, collages and prints are in many public and private collections, including the Arco Corp. in Los Angeles, Warner Bros. Film Studios in Hollywood, BART headquarters in Oakland, the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, the Oakland Museum and the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford.
