From the Collection of a Gentleman, St. Petersburg, Florida Anton Refregier was a Russian-American painter, muralist, and printmaker best known for his socially engaged public art. Born in Moscow, he immigrated to the United States in 1920 and trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and under Hans Hofmann. Refregier rose to prominence through the WPA Federal Art Project, most notably for his mural cycle
