The
Eduardo Catalano House (also known as the Raleigh House or Ezra Meir House), originally located at 1467 Caminos Drive (now Catalano Drive) in Raleigh, North Carolina, is an iconic example of midcentury modern residential architecture, celebrated for its dramatic hyperbolic paraboloid roof that earned it the nickname “the Potato Chip House.” Designed by architect Eduardo Catalano in 1954–55 as his own residence and built by Frank Walser, the 1,700-square-foot house was widely publicized for its innovative engineering and sculptural form. It was named “House of the Decade” by
House & Home magazine in 1956 and received rare praise from Frank Lloyd Wright. Catalano was awarded a 1955 AIA North Carolina Honor Award with special commendation for the design, which has since been regarded as one of the most significant and daring modern houses built in North Carolina—and often cited as among the most important residential designs in the United States.
