Private Collection, Charlotte, North Carolina Ruth Ava Lyons is an American painter born in Cleveland, Ohio, who holds degrees from Kent State University and Cranbrook Academy of Art. A Fulbright fellowship recipient, she has taught at colleges and universities in four states and exhibited her work in over 100 exhibitions nationwide. Lyons has received numerous grants, awards, and residencies, and her paintings are held in major private, corporate, institutional, and museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Museum of Women in the Arts, New Orleans Museum of Art, Hearst Corporation, Bank of America, Philip Morris USA, SAS Institute, and the Federal Reserve Bank. She has long collaborated with her partner, sculptor Paul Sires; together they were instrumental in pioneering Charlotte’s NoDa Arts District, owned and operated the award-winning Center of the Earth Gallery for 22 years, and currently run X Foundation and studio spaces for creatives.
