Oceania, likely Southern Highland province, circa early 20th century, clay and wrapped vegetal leaves (possibly pandanus), net fiber, human hair, shells, mounted behind glass in a later shadowbox frame.
Frame 24 x 23 1/2 x 6 3/4 in.
These figures represent a person killed in battle, and served as a marker for "payback" and revenge if compensation was not received. Once order was restored these dolls were often destroyed.
As made condition with some natural degradation to media; one needs repositioning.
