Model 1850 United States Foot Officer's Sword

Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Its 29-1/2 in. etched blade is fitted below an ornate brass guard; the painted metal scabbard has two brass suspension rings and a conforming drag. A bullion cord, possibly added later, is present; the blade's point appears to have been sharpened.

Affixed to the sword's scabbard is a modern typed label declaring this weapon to be a French import from the estate of Captain John D. Wood, Co. C, Natchitoches Rebels, 18th Louisiana Infantry, C.S.A. Killed at Shiloh, Tennessee, April 6, 1862. Though this connection is not proven, the sword is indeed a Civil War officer's weapon.

Very good condition with all elements present.
