From the Collection of Jon and Mary Leadbetter, Chapel Hill, North Carolina Fred Pailhès is best known for his paintings of ports and seascapes, as well as expressive portraits of bohemians, vagabonds, and everyday street life. Drawn to sailor bars, cabarets, bistros, and music halls, his work celebrates movement, color, and sensuality, particularly in his many depictions of women and dancers, including Loulou of the Folies Bergère. His work has been exhibited at the Musée Montparnasse and the Château Borély in Marseille.
Small paint flakes along left and right side of image; small scratch to back of seated figure at top left; not examined out of the frame.
