First quarter 19th century, case attributed to Matthew Egerton Jr. (NJ, active ca. 1785–1837), featuring a hand-painted and gilt arched metal dial signed "Aquila Barber. / Bristol" with automaton lunette of a ship at sea, with calendar aperture, 8-days dual weight driven brass works with suspension spring and pendulum, striking on an apical bell, iron false plate stamped
WILSON; fine figured mahogany veneer case, mahogany and poplar secondary, with fruitwood elliptical and line inlays, featuring a swan neck pediment with gilt brass rosettes flanking a rising ball and eagle finial atop a banded inlaid corbel, bonnet and case with fully turned and fluted columns inlaid in alternating light and dark wood to the lower third column, with brass base and capital, the trunk with serpentine door featuring oval inlays and inlaid kite key escutcheon, over a rectangular base with linear perimeter inlays, scalloped skirt and splayed legs from the solid.

From the Collection of Carol Hipps, Raleigh, North Carolina Case with some areas of shrinkage to veneers; glass is old with old glazing intact; evidence of some repairs to the veneers and inlays; case door hinges reset; base obverse panel with vertical cracks; dial with areas of paint loss with some painted touch up, crazing and abrasions; case backing reset with cracks and holes.
