Born in Jerez de la Frontera in the province of Cádiz, Manuel Muñoz y Otero formally trained in Madrid at the Escuela Especial de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado, where he studied under José Cala. He exhibited three paintings at the 1876 Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes, including
A Fondac,
Arab Vendor, and
Village Women. He exhibited
A Forge in Morocco at the Paris Exhibition of 1877.
Some minor chipping to frame; possible areas of wax seepage coming through canvas at lower right quadrant.
