Private Collection from an Equestrian Farm, Moore County, North Carolina Edmund Bristow was an English painter of sporting, animal, and landscape subjects. Born in Eton, he lived his entire life in Windsor. His father was a heraldic painter, from whom he likely received his early training. Bristow primarily painted sporting scenes and animals, along with landscapes that often incorporated views of Windsor and occasionally included recognizable local figures and Eton College characters. His works were typically small in scale and praised for their careful observation and attention to detail.
Though somewhat reclusive, Bristow developed important connections and patronage from members of the royal court, including Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Clarence (later King William IV). Today, his work is represented in several public collections, including Hull Museums Collections, Wolverhampton Arts and Museums, among others.
Some flattening to paint from antique lining, age cracking, a few minute areas of retouch.
