Adelaide Deming was an American Tonalist painter celebrated for her poetic landscapes and luminous nocturnes. Born in Litchfield, Connecticut, she studied at the Art Students League of New York and counted William Merritt Chase, Henry B. Snow and Arthur Wesley Dow among her instructors. Deming became especially known for her winter scenes, moonlit vistas, and tranquil rural settings, rendered in a myriad of mediums with a subtle, evocative touch. Deming exhibited at major institutions including the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

In addition to her artistic endeavors, Deming was also socially liberal. She was president of the Litchfield Equal Franchise League, a local suffrage group.
