Plain printed yellow wraps. 8vo; 77, [3]pp. Alice Walker praised the book, writing: "Should cancer of the breast be in my future, as it is in the future of thousands of American women each year, Lorde's words of love and wisdom and courage will be beside me to give me strength.
The Cancer Journals should be read by every woman who has a breast and especially by those women who do not." (back cover) (8 X 5 1/4 in.) (Wraps with light overall soiling, minor wear to extremities, some toning to cover and spine, and sticker residue on the back; text block extremely clean with just a touch of soiling to edges and minor creasing. Very good.)

From a Private North Carolina Collection Audre Lorde (1934-1992) was a professor, activist, and the third Poet Laureate of New York. She was the author of numerous books of poetry and prose, including the award-winning
The Cancer Journals which explores her experience with breast cancer, and
Zami: A New Spelling of My Name which she defined as a new genre she called "biomythography." Lorde died from liver cancer in 1992.
