Circa 1870s, mixed wood veneers including bird's eye maple with kingwood and ebony trim, the lid featuring a central hand-painted oval porcelain mount of a Bacchanalian putto, corners mounted with blue glass cabochons, each within shaped brass bezels, opening to a card and lace lined interior fitted with mirror, two gilt glass bottles with stoppers, two white metal needle cases, period case of John James & Sons "drill'd eyed needles", turned and carved nut thimble and screw top needle case, sewing scissors, along with a heart and basket form pin cushion.
