Eloi Noel Isidore Béraud, born in Saint Étienne, France, painted under the pseudonyms Bouvard, Antoine Bouvard, and Marc Aldine. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Étienne, he first worked in the Barbizon style and also produced graphic designs for Galeries Lafayette and Markovich cigarettes. After establishing a studio at Val d’Oise in 1924, a visit to Venice in 1930, where he briefly studied with Rubens Santoro, inspired him to specialize in Venetian views that captured the city’s distinctive light and were influenced by Félix Ziem. His works were exhibited through galleries including the Whitgift Gallery in Croydon, Gallery Morisco in Nice, and Galerie Paul Claux in Paris.

Light yellowing to varnish; minor draw to canvas at top left corner; overall in good estate condition.
