Finely bound in three-quarter red morocco over marbled paper-covered boards, the spine with raised bands and gilt-lettered and decorated compartments, with marbled endpapers and top edge gilt; stamped "Bound by Bayntun (Rivière), Bath, England." on verso of first free endpaper. Large 8vo; xx, [2], [1]-294pp. With (23) (of 24) color and black-and-white illustrations including frontispiece.

Handsome binding with some wear to extremities; lacking one plate; interior with foxing (concentrated on endpapers), an area of gutter wear, a professional corner repair to title page, edges with toning and an occasional chip or small tear (mostly due to being opened), and an occasional spot of light grime; some leaves still partially unopened and overall very clean. Very good.
