Edwin Voorhees was a gifted watercolorist who documented life and work along the North Carolina coast. A native of San Diego, he settled in North Carolina after leaving a career as a marketing manager with DuPont in New York to pursue painting full time. Voorhees also founded a lasting family tradition of art. His wife, Mildred, was an artist, and many of their children and grandchildren have continued in creative fields.
