Ulinski began their career in 1976 as a studio furniture maker, with work exhibited at the Smithsonian Craft Fair, the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Fair, Funeria in San Francisco, and the John Elder Gallery in New York. In 1993, they transitioned into painting, studying with Elizabeth Lentz, Jacob Cooley, and Beverly McIver. Their first solo painting exhibition was held in 2001 at Hager Smith Design Gallery in Raleigh, followed by annual solo shows and participation in numerous juried and invitational exhibitions. Their work has appeared in arts publications and on book covers, and they have received fellowships from the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and the Vermont Studio Center.

Alongside painting, Ulinski continues to create and exhibit fine woodworking, taking on commissions and producing new gallery work. They are also an experienced educator, having taught woodworking and painting at institutions including Penland School of Crafts, Arrowmont School of Crafts, Peters Valley Craft Center, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, the Durham Arts Council, Pocosin Arts Center, and East Carolina University. Their still life paintings reflect a sculptor’s sensibility, emphasizing form, light, and the quiet, contemplative beauty of everyday objects.
