Showa period (1926-1989), porcelain plaque hand painted with a charming pair of quails and autumn grasses, signed to lower left corner in underglaze blue, presented with a fabric mat in a honey-toned wood frame.

Sakaida Kakiemon XII was the twelfth-generation head of the famed Kakiemon kiln at Arita, celebrated for preserving the elegant enamel-decorated porcelain tradition established in the seventeenth century. Active during the late Meiji through early Showa periods, he helped sustain the kiln’s reputation as one of Japan’s foremost ceramic workshops.
