Born in 1951, Richard Garrison attended North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Visual Art. Since becoming a full-time working artist in 1993, his work has focused primarily on figural works and still lifes.

Though his work has evolved over the years—from realism to abstraction, from pure painting to mixed media, and from conceptual frameworks to spontaneous expression—he has consistently aimed to forge an honest connection with the viewer through emotional depth and the portrayal of universally shared experiences.
