Private Collection, Raleigh, North Carolina Alberto Ortega earned his BFA and MFA from the University of Seville, Spain. An immigrant to the United States, where he settled in Raleigh, North Carolina, Ortega brings an outsider's keen eye to the mythology of American suburban life, a world he first encountered through film, literature, and visual art.
His process begins with the meticulous construction of miniature sets, hand-built models that serve as the physical references for his luminous oil paintings. The resulting works evoke the manicured optimism of 1950s suburbia while probing its shadows: the fragility of the American Dream, the quiet menace beneath its surface, and the deep alienation that can accompany the longing to belong.
Good estate condition.
