Paul Bartlett was born in Taunton, Massachusetts and attended Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard. He studied art in both Chicago and Paris. In 1944 he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where he taught at the Mint Museum, Burton Institute, and the Country Day School. He exhibited and taught throughout the country. In addition to painting, he was also an accomplished poet. The Mint Museum mounted a memorial exhibition of his works in 1965 following his untimely death.
