Polychrome paint on cut sheet metal, including a small "Blow Oskar" figure (9 3/4 x 4 3/4 in.); a figure with arms stretched upwards (9 1/2 x 3 3/8 in.); a Valentine's Day heart (10 3/4 x 10 1/4 in.); and an American flag (14 1/4 x 22 in.), all marked "RA Miller."
Self-taught folk artist, Reuben Aaron Miller, is known for his whirligigs, metal cutouts, and drawings. Born in Rabbittown, Georgia, Miller lived on the same property where he was born most of his life. He gained widespread fame in 1984 after the band REM filmed "Left of Reckoning" among Miller's whirligigs.
Miller's works are in numerous public collections, including the Asheville Art Museum, Birmingham Museum of Art, Kentucky Folk Art Center, Morris Museum of Art, and the New Orleans Museum of Art.
A few light surface marks to paint of American flag; good overall condition.
