Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Mixed media consisting of various fabrics and yarns, the three-column form of sewn and embroidered fabrics joined by felt strips that also serve as hanging loops, accompanied by hanging hardware.

From the Collection of the late Patricia and Robert Spearman, Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Born in India to British parents, Smith's family returned to England before the onset of World War II. Later she lived with relatives in Texas, where she honed her artistic skills. In 1967 she moved to New York City, where she showed her work in exhibitions at Cordier & Ekstrom, the gallery shared by Isamu Noguchi, Romare Bearden, Richard Lindner, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray.

Bradshaw-Smith's work in New York led her to become a set designer for New York Theatre Ballet and other ballet companies. She also founded a toy company, "Possom Trot," which featured the famous mother pig with baby snap-on piglets. She wrote the book, "Adventures in Toymaking" about her experience designing toys for Possom Trot and other brands.

Moving back to Dallas in 1995, Bradshaw-Smith has continued to create art of various media by commission for residential and commercial spaces.
