Carla & Greg Filippelli (Asheville, NC), Four Large "Random Weave" Woven Vessel

Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Cranberry Creek Baskets, hand-dyed and woven reed and rattan basketry, free-form style of weaving, ink signed to the underside, including a large leaf form (40 x 23 1/2 x 3 1/2 in.), a cocoon-like vessel (29 x 14 x 15 in.), a large spherical womb bowl (22 x 27 x 27 in.), and a low bowl form (7 x 20 x 18 in.).

Greg and Carla Filippelli developed a free form style of weaving called random weave in the 1980s. Their fluid designs and shapes have evolved into functional baskets and sculptural art for the wall. Influenced by their natural surroundings, their work reflects: love of nature and organic forms using hand dyed reeds, fibers and wild vines.

Carla and Greg are active exhibitors with Southern Highland Craft Guild as well as Piedmont Craftsman.

Some surface soiling to interstices, and some rubbing and abrasions to dyed surfaces.
