The Collection of Karen & Robert Milnes, Asheville, North Carolina Peter Minchell was a self-taught American artist whose visionary drawings and paintings were deeply influenced by his devout Roman Catholic faith. After moving to Florida following World War II, he began painting, dedicating himself more fully to his art after retiring in the late 1960s. Minchell developed his complex compositions mentally before executing them, often drawing from dreams and imagination. His work explores themes of religion, morality, and humanity’s fate, including major series depicting a post-apocalyptic world shaped by “Comet X,” an idealized “Planet Perfection,” and life in the Amazon. His intricate and symbolic style reflects a highly personal and spiritual approach to art.
Slight even toning to the sheet, not examined outside the frame.
