George Howell Gay was an American landscape and marine painter known for his atmospheric depictions of New England’s countryside and coastline. Born in Acushnet, Massachusetts, he studied in Boston and later in Paris, where he absorbed influences from the Barbizon School and French Impressionism. He worked in both oil and watercolor, and frequently exhibited at the Salmagundi Club and Boston Art Club.
