Frederick Coffay Yohn was an American illustrator best known for his dramatic historical and military scenes depicting the American Revolution, frontier life, and World War I. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he studied at the Indianapolis Art School and the Art Students League of New York before building a successful career as an illustrator for major publications including Harper’s Magazine, Scribner’s Magazine, and Collier’s Weekly. Renowned for his historical accuracy and storytelling ability, Yohn created some of the most iconic images of early American history, including scenes of George Washington at Valley Forge and the Battle of Oriskany.
