Peter Smith is a Scottish equine artist born in Lanarkshire to an English mother and Scottish father. Influenced by his grandfather, a lifelong painter, he developed an early interest in both art and horses, aspiring from childhood to become an equestrian artist. He studied at Carlisle and Glasgow Art Schools, drawing inspiration from artists such as Edgar Degas and Sir Alfred Munnings, particularly in their use of light, color, and draughtsmanship.
Smith lives near Ayr Racecourse, where he finds much of his subject matter. Working from local racing stables, he paints scenes of thoroughbreds at the track, in paddocks, on gallops, and along nearby beaches where horses are trained. While he has sketched at major racecourses including Aintree and Newmarket, his work is primarily centered on Ayr and Hamilton Park, capturing both flat racing and steeplechasing.
Very good estate condition.
