Engraved map on laid paper; an extremely detailed map depicting Pennsylvania through South Carolina, with a simple title cartouche, and color outlines used to show the routes of Lord Cornwallis (red), General O’Hara (blue), and Lieutenant Colonel Tarleton (yellow) as indicated by the key provided. From a Private Wilmington, North Carolina Collector British General Charles Cornwallis arrived in America in 1776 to fight in the American Revolutionary War. He fought in Charleston before participating in campaigns in New York and Pennsylvania, and then later returning to the South to fight victories in South Carolina in 1780. His success was short-lived, however, with losses in both South Carolina and North Carolina before famously surrendering at Yorktown, Virginia in October 1781.
Not laid down; with folds, as issued, with associated light offsetting and a couple of small areas of separation; very light creasing, a 1 1/4-in. repaired tear and a couple of additional tears at folds (largest 1 1/8-in.), a small repair at lower margin, and some folds with reinforcement or repairs on verso; not examined fully outside the frame; light wear to frame. A wonderful example of this important and scarce map.
