Private Collection, Richmond, Virginia John Robinson Tait was an American landscape painter, writer, and art critic associated with the Düsseldorf and Munich Schools. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he studied and traveled extensively in Europe, where he developed a style known for atmospheric landscapes and detailed natural scenery. Tait painted European and American pastoral views, lakes, and mountain scenes, often emphasizing dramatic light and romantic composition. In addition to his artistic career, he published travel writings and worked as an art critic after settling in Baltimore later in life.
